How Belkasoft Evidence Center helped me to succeed.
Recently, I worked on a case involving extorting loans over the internet.
I had to examine several desktops and laptops in terms of the activity of
their users on the Internet. The amount of information (artifacts) that
writes the operating system to disk with such activity is huge. I had a
hard and tedious work waiting for me to analyze the data and use a lot of
different tools.
Due to the nature of the illegal activity, there was
a suspicion that the data on the disk could have been removed or cleaned.
So, the scope of the work was to recover deleted files and analyze them.
In my research I had to include not only artifacts from web browsers.
Information from instant messengers, e-mails and documents could also prove
important.
Having such a specific goal and the scope of the research, I could do
all the necessary tasks manually using a dozen or so different tools. However,
it would take me a very long time and would force me to spend many hours
in the process of obtaining data for analysis.
Being an active user of the BEC software, I knew that BEC had all the functions
I needed.
The data collection for analysis with BEC was limited to connecting the
disk and selecting the elements that interested me. After finishing the
work by BEC, I received an orderly set of data that I could browse, search
and sort. I love working so efficient. And what is important in the work
of computer forensics, BEC allowed me to export relevant data to the format
that was me needed.
The use of BEC saved me many hours of tedious work, thanks to which I

Digital Forensic Research Workshop presented a murder case for the 2017 challenge, “The Murder of Betty Hallym.” Husband was in the back bedroom watching a movie on the Kodi app using a Raspberry Pi Television and was wearing head phones. He wife was in the living room and was listening to music. After the husband Simon was finished watching the movie he went out to the living room and found his wife unresponsive laying on the floor.
Students from Pittsburgh Technical College used Belkasoft Evidence Center to drill down into a Group Me chat app on Betty’s phone with another actor named John Macron, whom contacted her on the day of her murder. An investigation and questioning of John Macron should solve this case.

I loaded on iOS image into Belkasoft Evidence Center and was impressed
BEC gave me a clear overview of the progress while loading the image, the task manager tab does not need explaining and is self-explanatory which is nice.
The tool has a good overview of data and found artifacts (per category) when the image was done loading. I liked predefined search, it’s is a nice addition which can come in very handy.

BEC spares us a lot of time and effort
Before it took up to a whole working day to find the messenger history on the different operating systems and to produce a report with MS Access or other different tools. However, even after this processing time the results did not look so professional
as the report from Belkasoft Evidence Center in a form of HTML pages. We are excited about the tool, which spares us a lot of time and effort. The steps are simple: scan hard drive and you can see immediately which messenger histories are available.
Then quickly extract history and save as an HTML page. That is it. Evaluation can then be done by another colleague. Other forensic police-groups will buy the tool too. It is very good and saves much time!

I teach computer security course at University of Sarajevo. Part of thet course includes digital forensics. I am often asked to be court expert witness and I have to perform digital forensic investigations.
My teaching goal was to show students how an excellent digital forensics tool works. To show them what it can do, what kind of evidence it can find from various places on different media, how it can arrange evidence in several ways (by source, location, in timeline, ...) that are very useful for an investigator.
I also wanted them to see reporting features that are extremely important for digital investigations. Students were able to very quickly learn how to efficiently use Belkasoft Evidence Center. They were able to create a case, perform data collection and analysis and create report during limited time provided for lab.
My impression is that students were amazed with what can be retrieved and reconstructed form a device using Belkasoft Evidence Center.

I bought Belkasoft Evidence Center one year ago because I had a case where I found pieces of incriminated Skype and ICQ-Messages, but I could not get a readable text with my forensic tools and I could not get the sender and receivers.
