We stared at each other in stunned silence—unable to believe what we’d just seen on the mothership control panel. The Earth faced imminent subjugation by the alien beam—and only the two of us knew it. Yet we couldn’t move, couldn’t even force out a word. But somehow, I managed to break through the strange paralysis.
—Chief, if I’m reading this right—they’re planning to blast Earth! We’re done for!
The Chief finally found his voice.
—Son—he rasped—make sure their bluster blaster shoots something else instead!
